When Kittens Open Their Eyes

Basically kittens spend the first week or so of their lives deaf and blind.
When kittens open their eyes. Kittens start to open their eyes at around one week old but their eyesight is still not developed. As they get more acclimated. As a kitten s pupils don t dilate and contract readily protect your kitten from bright lights. Your cat s vision will gradually improve over the next few weeks.
Short haired kittens will usually open their eyes faster than long haired cats. At this time their ears begin to open and perk up. During this week they should be kept of bright light. Kittens open their eyes and ears.
Kittens eyes do not open all at once. However they will not open their eyes widely. Their newly opened eyes are blue until about two months of age when they start to change color unless they will remain blue. They usually open when the kittens are between 8 and 14 days old.
Cats tend to be farsighted but are very sensitive to motion. Kittens will open their eyes during the second week but it doesn t mean that their vision is good. About ten to 14 days after birth the kitten will slowly start to open her eyes. Its eyes will start to open and will be completely open at 9 to 14 days old.
The eyes will stay blue for 2 more weeks. As you know kittens are born with their eyes closed. Vision will be blurred at first. If kittens are born with blue eyes they might start changing color during their third week.

However their eyes will still be overly sensitive to the light and must be opened gradually in order for the cats to become accustomed to exposing the eyes to the outside world.

At that age vision will be a bit blurred. It will begin as a thin slit. Kittens will usually will open their eyes after they are weaned but it could take up to 6 months for them to completely open their eyes. Kittens eyes are very important to them because they need to be able to see as much as possible and for most of them to stay healthy.
