When Should Kittens Get Injections
A kitten has its first injection at 9 weeks and then a second 3 4 weeks later.
When should kittens get injections. Usually vaccines begin at about six weeks of age and repeated every three weeks till they re about 16 18 weeks old. Then your cat will have an annual booster jab every 12 months to keep them protected for life. Keep the vaccination record safe and check whether your vet practice offers a vaccination reminder service. After this point they are protected against the diseases covered by the vaccines.
Kittens can start their vaccinations from nine weeks old and will need a second set of injections usually 2 4 weeks after their initial set to complete their course. After this kittens and cats usually need booster vaccinations every twelve months. In theory they should not be allowed outside until they have had the second injection. Kittens should have their first set of vaccinations at nine weeks old and at three months old they should receive the second set to boost their immune system.
Until your kitten is fully vaccinated and neutered you should keep him or her inside. However from a behavioural point of view it is very important that a young kitten of this age is confronted with different situations to ensure that it grows into a socialised adult. A booster follows this first vaccination 12 months later and then again once a year throughout the cat s adult life. Kitten vaccines are usually first given at about six to eight weeks of age and repeated approximately every three weeks until about 16 to 18 weeks of age.
Kittens are only considered to be vaccinated when they ve had at least two injections including the first booster at 12 16 weeks.
